The workshop focused on the refinement of Co-Teach approaches within the TU Dortmund and University of Duhok joint BSc program in spatial planning, the logistic and content preparations for a forthcoming book entitled loosely “Challenges and Advances in Spatial Planning in Iraq” to be published in June of 2018. The group was hosted by the ‘Waste Disposal Centre Lobbe’ for a private tour of their recycling facility.
The symposium had four tracks, coving topics of 1) The current crisis, problems with migration and displaced peoples, and the challenges of reconstruction and housing, 2) The urban-rural divide and regional disparities, and challenges with recent explosive urban growth, 3) Infrastructure and settlement development, and the challenges of urban development and planning management, and 4) Spatial planning in international context – how can planning education address the recent challenges of the country. Tracks were led by scientists from TU Dortmund and University of Duhok and included 11 original paper presentations, many of which will be published in our forthcoming book (see program below).
